My husband was the POA for his mother for years. When she was placed into a nursing home, his three siblings came to us and said they wanted us to move into her home. The house needed alot of work. Seven dumpsters of stuff thrown away before they could even do a huge estate sale. We told the family it needed too much work and we could not afford to do it.

My bank no longer returns originals of cheques which have cleared my account. Instead, it encloses a photocopy of the face of the cheque. Recently I asked for the original, since I had endorsed the back ‘in full settlement’ of a debt . The check was in the agreed-upon sum. I was shocked to learn that the bank destroys the original checks! The bank assured me, however, that the photocopy provided me by the bank was sufficient evidence to take to court, should the payee dispute the issue.

My husband had criminal charges pressed on him for contractor fraud. They listed it as theft over 00. The people that pressed the charges passed away during all the court proceedings (this has been going on for 3 years) and it just keeps getting continued. The children are now trying to take over the charges and telling the courts if we agree to pay them so much money back then they will not pursue him serving jail time.
