“I am considering getting a second job, my child support payments are being met by the first job, will my payments increase if I take on a second job?”

Question: Unless there is an order saying that you have to pay a percentage of earnings over a certain amount, then the support increase would not be automatic. Many orders contain provisions that you notify the other parent of any change in employment, so you may have to watch out for that. If the issue of child support amount comes in front of the judge to make a decision, that judge can absolutely use income from whatever source acquired to calculate support. If there is automatic increase language in your order, then you would be obligated for that amount. If not, you would continue to pay at the original amount on the order until a new order comes into effect.
