Handling Interim Distribution Payments

Note: The DearEsq free 'ask a lawyer' site is offered as a free informational service to the public and is not intended as legal advice. Laws vary from state-to-state, and in addition every situation is unique, and relevant facts may not be known. The answer to the question posed below may not apply to in your state or to your situation. For legal advice in your state and your situation you should consult with an attorney in your state who is familiar with the rules and laws in your state.

“I am receiving an Interim Distribution Payment for a lawsuit and the letter talks about the payment being 40% of the total payment. The figures that they have given me are labeled as the Interim payment. Does that mean that I will be receiving 40% of that amount minus lawyer fees or is that the amount that I will be receiving now”

Question: You will need to ask the attorneys or their agents making the distribution for clarification, as it will be uniquely subject to the terms of the representation agreement that was made with them.
