Is the Store Liable for Damaging My Ring?

I was school clothes shopping at a mall last year (2013) with my son. We passed a very well-known highly reputable jewelry store.. They were offering free cleaning of jewelry / rings. the little girl asked me if she could clean my rings ( I have a large aquamarine and diamond pave set engagement ring that has to be steam cleaned / ultra sonic because the stone is chemical sensitive). Anyhow she took the rings and I asked her to also check the stones in case there were loose ones. Read More …

Who is Liable for Damage to My Engagement Ring?

I was school clothes shopping at a mall last year (2013) with my son. We passed a very well-known highly reputable jewelry store. They were offering free cleaning of jewelry/rings. The little girl asked me if she could clean my rings (I have a large aquamarine and diamond pave set engagement ring that has to be steam cleaned/ultra sonic because the stone is chemical sensitive). Anyhow she took the rings and I asked her to also check the stones in case there were loose ones. She said okay and off she went. I was looking around the store waiting when she brought them back to me. As I looked at my engagement ring I noticed two stones were missing from the side pave setting. So after bringing this to her attention, she picked up a jar of cleaner (not meant for my kind of stone/ ring). There were no loose diamonds in the jar, then she went to the ultrasonic cleaner and supposedly could not find anything in there either. After telling her I wanted to talk to the manager, and explaining the story, he asked her if she checked the stones before cleaning them and she said no. Read More …

Should I File a Small Claims Lawsuit Against the Company?

I live in Houston, Texas (Harris County). I recently had a bathroom sink refinished and the rep did a poor job. I contacted them the same day and asked for a different rep to fix the shoddy work. I was told that the owner would call me back. This did not happen. I called and spoke the main contact I used previously and she said she would call me back regarding scheduling. She never did. I sent emails (including one through their web page contact form), left some phone messages, and even sent a text message (she utilized phone texts on previous job questions). This was to no avail. I think I made the error on a phone text in mentioning that I did not receive a receipt for the work (and that I need the 2nd rep to bring one). That may very well have been the company’s cue to ignore me. Their web page has not physical address, and they have no formally registered business in checking with the country clerks office. Thus, I suspect they work their fleet out of a residence. I looked into filing in small claims court in my county to recoup the money spent (75 job), but the docket lead times are 6 to 8 months out (very busy precinct). Complicating matters is the fact that I am about to put my home on the market, so I will most likely not be living the in home and not be the owner when this comes before a judge. Please advise. Thanks. Read More …

Can My Bill be Sent to Collections Even if I Pay the Minimum Balance On Time?

My health insurance doesn’t pay for office visits. When I receive a bill, I pay what I can afford at the time. That isn’t good enough for the business and they are always threatening me with collections even though I have paid at the minimum fee of 5 each time I get a bill. Can they really come after me if I don’t set up payments with them beforehand? I always pay something right away. One bill was for 12. I sent 5 twice. I now owe 62 and was planning to pay another 5-0 this time. Read More …

If He has Medical Expenses is My Daughter Responsible for any of Those Expenses?

My daughter has been physically separated from her husband since Aug 2012. She has filed for a divorce and is in the process of restarting mediation. My daughter and her husband currently reside in California. My daughter has herself and child medical expenses covered through her new job. But, she no longer has her husband on her medical plan as of last week. He was informed of the date well in advance that in May (that just passed) he would no longer be covered by her work medical policy. He has not secured his own medical insurance and therefore now has no medical insurance. My questions. Note–in California. 1) If he has medical expenses is my daughter responsible for any of those expenses? 2) Is this pretty clear, or is it unclear legally? I think the legal date of separation was Aug 28, 2012. 3) If she is in any way responsible for any part of such expenses, is there something she can do to protect herself from his future medical expenses? No expenses have been incurred at this time. May 25, 2013. Read More …

What Can I do to Force The Contractor to Fix the Error and Make the Correction?

I am in process of having my kitchen renovated. I did not get a utility drawer for my utensils. He stated that he would get back to me and also said that it was too late to correct anything. All the materials have been paid for and I currently owe a balance for labor.
