I got Married in Africa 5 Years Ago, Do I Need to get Divorce in Order to get Remarried in the United States?
|
I have been married for 5 years in Africa (Nigeria). Now the laws are different over there. I live in Danville, Virginia and I am a citizen of the United States of America. My husband is not a citizen and lives in Germany. I have a boyfriend that i live with and we plan on getting married soon. My problem is since I got married in Africa, do I have to get a divorce? Or if i go ahead and marry my boyfriend, will that be bigamy? |

Yes, you have to get a divorce first, and yes, if you marry your boyfriend without first divorcing your husband, it will be bigamy.
